About the Course

The SSI Extended Range program trains divers to independently plan and execute limited decompression dives to depths of up to 45 meters. Using decompression gases with oxygen levels of up to 100% and specialized equipment, this course prepares you for dives requiring staged decompression stops of up to 25 minutes.

For those looking to minimize narcosis, the program can also be completed using Trimix. You’ll refine your dive planning, equipment handling, and buoyancy control to safely conduct extended-range dives with an equally qualified dive buddy.

Prerequisites

• Certifications: Deep Diving and Enriched Air Nitrox 40%
• 50 logged dives or certification in Extended Range Nitrox Diving

Course Structure

1. Academic and Equipment Configuration

   • Start with online learning via SSI.
   • Attend a dedicated academic session covering dive theory, equipment configuration, and dive planning.

2. Confined Water Training (Pool Session)

   • Swim test and skill development in trim, buoyancy, and propulsion.

3. Open Water Training (3 Days)

   • Dives 1 & 2: Max depth 30 meters
   • Dives 3 & 4: Between 30–40 meters
   • Dives 5 & 6: Between 40–45 meters, with at least one dive reaching a minimum of 40 meters

To complete the course, you’ll need to:

• Pass the Extended Range Diving final exam with at least 80%.
• Pass the Extended Range Trimix exam (if using Trimix) with at least 80%.
• Independently plan dives using the Extended Range Dive Planning sheet.

Duration

• 18 hours (3 days of open water dives + academic development)
• Maximum training depth: 45 meters

Certification and Progression

Upon completion, you’ll be certified to conduct Extended Range dives (with or without Trimix), using the equipment and procedures learned during training. Certified divers are entitled to conduct dives up to 45 meters, with staged decompression stops of no more than 25 minutes, in environments similar to their training and experience.
