SCUBA FORCE SHADOW: 2mm Hooded Thermal Vest
The Essential Layer: Small Change, Massive Difference
Every degree matters when you are pushing your bottom time or enduring a long deco stop. The SCUBA FORCE Shadow 2mm Vest is designed to be the ultimate "thermal booster." By protecting your core and sealing your head and neck, this vest significantly extends your comfortable temperature range whether worn under a wetsuit or as an extra layer inside a drysuit.
Key Technical Features:
-
Premium 2mm Neoprene: High-stretch limestone-based neoprene provides maximum insulation with zero bulk, ensuring your mobility remains completely unrestricted.
-
Integrated Ergo-Hood: The attached hood eliminates the "flush zone" at the back of the neck, providing a continuous thermal barrier from your crown to your waist.
-
Anatomical Cut: Specifically tailored for a "compression fit" under the Shadow 5mm suit, preventing air pockets and water movement against your skin.
-
Lightweight & Travel Ready: The perfect solution for divers who want to stay warm without the weight and buoyancy of a thicker full suit.
⚓ Oceanauts Academy: Tech Tip
The Logic of the Hooded Vest
In the Irish Sea, the most common way divers get cold is through "flushing" (cold water entering the neck of a suit) and heat loss through the head.
1. The "Chimney" Effect
Your head acts like a chimney for your body heat. By wearing an integrated hood, you aren't just keeping your head warm, you are preventing your core temperature from plummeting.
2. Core Compression Fit
A thermal vest should feel snug, almost like a compression shirt. This ensures that even if a small amount of water enters your outer suit, it is trapped against your skin by the vest and cannot circulate. This "dead water" layer is what actually keeps you warm.
3. Layering for the Irish Sea
If you find your 5mm Shadow suit is perfect for June but a bit chilly in May, don't buy a 7mm suit. Adding this 2mm vest effectively creates a 7mm core where you need it most, while keeping your arms and legs flexible in 5mm neoprene for better valve drills and mobility.
Academy Note: When layering, always tuck the vest under the neck seal of your primary wetsuit. This creates a "labyrinth seal" that makes it nearly impossible for cold water to reach your chest.
📏 Sizing & Fitment
For the best results, we recommend matching your vest size to your primary wetsuit size for a streamlined, anatomical fit.
